BEHIND THE SONG WITH KEVIN DAVIS
#75 - "Glory To God Forever" by Fee
NRT Contributor Kevin Davis celebrates his 75th "Behind The Song" devotional by speaking to Fee about their new worship hit, "Glory To God Forever."

Fee’s second project, Hope Rising, comes after much acclaim from their freshman album, We Shine, which garnered a No. 1 radio smash hit in “All Because of Jesus," and four GMA Dove Award nominations including a nod in the “New Artist of the Year” category. As for the band’s first single, “Glory To God Forever,” Steve Fee says “There is a message for us here in this era and period in church history. I’m confident that songs which echo the victory of Christ are exactly what we, the Church, want to say and God, in His timely way, put songs in us like 'Glory To God Forever.'"

This is one of my favorite songs of the year, and it has already risen to the top of the Christian chart. “Glory To God Forever” is reflective of Fee’s knack for writing rousing songs of praise begging for a corporate worship setting. The song caught on long before its official release and is already being sung in churches across the country.

I recently had the opportunity to interview Steve Fee about "Glory To God Forever." This is what he shared with me.

Please tell me the story behind “Glory to God Forever.”

It is a really simple song, but it is based on a massive concept. The massive thought is that everything in our lives gives glory to God. It strikes the very core of why we were made. I believe this is a song that was already in us to say that God created us to give glory to Him.

Did you base the song on any bible verses?

The band has been associated with some of today’s most forthcoming faith-based events, including Passion 7:22, which is based on 2 Samuel 7:22 (NIV).

22 "How great you are, O Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.

What's the take-away message for listeners?

For us, worship is meant to be spontaneous, and this song reflects that concept. We started off this song with just the chorus, which is the core of worship and the core of life. The world gives glory to many things other than God, which is why we take the 2nd Samuel 7:22 verse to heart: “There is no One like You.” We just want to deliver something fresh to the Lord and build on that ministry and bring it to the people.

Here are the lyrics:

Before the world was made
Before you spoke it to be
You were the King of Kings
Yeah you were, yeah you were
And now You’re reigning still
Enthroned above all things
Angels and saints cry out
We join them as we sing

Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God Forever
Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God Forever

Creator God You gave me breath
So I could praise Your great and matchless name
All my days, all my days
So let my whole life be a blazing offering
A life that shouts and sings
The greatness of our King

Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God Forever
Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God Forever

Take my life, and let it be
All for You and for Your glory
Take my life and let it be Yours
Take my life and let it be
All for You and for Your glory
Take my life and let it be Yours

We sing, Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God Forever
Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God Forever

Take my life, and let it be
All for You and for Your glory
Take my life and let it be Yours
Take my life and let it be
All for You and for Your glory
Take my life and let it be Yours

We sing, Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God Forever

As we prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus, our King of Kings, try reflecting on the words of this song. I love the first verse with the picture “Angels and saints cry out, We join them as we sing,” which leads to the great chorus “Glory to God Forever!”

The great challenge of this song is in the second verse: So let my whole life be a blazing offering, A life that shouts and sings, The greatness of our King!” What a great gift we can bring our King of Kings for Christmas. Let your whole life be a blazing offering to Him!
