Not their greatest, but good | Posted June 02, 2010
You can definitely here the change in the sound of Hawk Nelson in this album. The change began in Hawk Nelson is My Friend but it’s more noticeable in this album. It’s a good album, but not too impressive. Best song is Live Life Loud or Meaning Of Life. Some of the other songs are pretty good but there are a couple that don’t impress me at all.

Best Album Yet | Posted March 14, 2010
I'm never dissapointed in the quality of Hawk nelsons music, but this album is better than Hawk Nelson Is My Friend and is just as good if not better than their older releases. Always uplifting and fun to listen to.

SO glad I bought this CD!! | Posted March 13, 2010
kk, so i can't even put in words how proud i am to own this cd....and that's simply because it's totally FANTASTICAL!!

simply put, although most of the songs on this CD don't seem to have a HUGE amount of energy when you first listen to em, they're honestly RLY great!! i just find that their rly catchy lyrics and great sound makes them all AMAZING...like, seriously: EVERY SINGLE SONG on this CD is great to listen to!! this is why it's pretty hard to decide which is my fave...probably "long ago" but like i mentioned, all the rest are awesome as well!!

It's Hawk Nelson | Posted October 27, 2009
At first listen it was ok to me but like most of Hawk Nelsons stuff it grew on me. They are a great group of guys and love there fans. Just look at the pictures I got from the Awake and Alive Tour. I love Live Life Loud, Never Enough, The Meaning of Life, Alive, and The Job are probably the ones that stick out to me the most. They are the most upbeat songs on the album and I love Hawk Nelsons up beat stuff. It gets you going at work I have compiled all there upbeat songs on my ipod and rock out to them when I need to get moving. But yes another fine album from a great group of guys.

Throw Your Hands Up! | Posted October 20, 2009
I really like the energy in this album. "Live Life Loud" makes me want to dance and their rendition of "Tis So Sweet" makes me want to sing as loud as I can and praise God. A new spin on a classic hymn but without losing the songs originality. "Ode To Lord Stanley" is cute and quirky. "The Final Toast" is probably my favorite song on this album, can be used for sooo many things and has many meanings. Sweet and sad but very lovely. If you're a fan of Hawk Nelson, you will not be disappointed. And if you're not a fan of Hawk Nelson, you should enjoy it too.

Hawk Nelson has become a staple for many across the Christian music scene. From their stellar debut of Letters to President to their latest release Live Life Loud Hawk Nelson pushes the limits of their artistic capabilities. Live Life Loud is definitely a change for the band as this will be their first full album the band has written by themselves.

The title song, “Live Life Loud” is certainly one of Hawk Nelson’s best songs. This song could certainly serve as the anthem for the Rebelution’s “Do Hard Things Tour”. I give this song points for its lyrics and its innovativeness.

“Never Enough” is a song in true Hawk Nelson fashion. In specific parts of the song, Dunn seems to get in a rap. But under the fluffy surface, Hawk Nelson says how everything that we do is never enough to satisfy us, and that only God can satisfy us. This song sounds strikingly similar to the make up of “Let’s Dance”. A good song, but it looses points on lack of creativity.

“Eggshells” is certainly new for Hawk Nelson. Its highlight includes a guest appearance by TobyMac. The meaning of “Eggshells” talks about how a relationship feels “like I’m walking on eggshells.” It has an earnest plea to save the relationship and to start anew. The only downer on this song is the music doesn’t do the lyrics justice. But overall, it’s a good song.

“Meaning of Life” calls for us to “find a way, to make a change in the lives of all of us who need to find the meaning of life”. It’s an earnest call for us as Christians to go out and show others the “meaning of life.”

“Alive” talks about how we feel alive in Christ. The lyrics for this song are really good; however, the music arrangement combined with the way the song is sung makes a mediocre song.

“Ode To Lord Stanley” is simply Hawk Nelson having a fun time. No meaning to the song whatsoever, just a bunch of guys goofing around.

“Long Ago” is a ballad about missing an old love. To start off, I’m going to have to have a grammar police moment. The third line states when we didn't have no worries. Please, don’t use double negatives in a song! XP Overall, there isn’t anything new about this song. After all, it’s only been done a few thousand times.

“The Job” is a song that overly repetitive and gets old extremely fast. The lyrics explain this song pretty well: So I wrote this song to try to pass the time.

Of all the slow songs this one hit home with me. “Shaken” is about how even the most painful situations can be used by God for good. It tells how "I’ve been shaken/ from my head, on down to my toes/ Lord use me, take me where you want me to go/ I can't help it, my heart has been replaced with a face/I'm ready, these hands are dedicated to change." The lyrics say it all.

“Lest We Forget” asks that “we never forget.” Most likely, this song is asking for the person to never forget the times we had together. A good song, but pretty much every single artist has released a similar song. Nothing new artistically, but still a good song.

“‘Tis So Sweet” is a heartfelt rendition of the classic hymn. Though this song features a drastic change in the arrangement of the music, the song’s message still rings true. This is a song worth getting! Enough said.

“The Final Toast” is a sad song that is truly a “last toast” to those who have passed away and will be forever missed. This song is a good ending to a good song.

Overall, Live Life Loud is a solid record for a band with a proven track record. This album scores high in lyrics and innovativeness in some areas, but in others it falls in its refinement. So I give this record a 3.5 out of 5. One reason for this is the noticeable absence of Trevor McNevan(front man of Thousand Foot Krutch and FM Static) in the song writing process. As stated earlier, this is the first album that was entirely written by the band. This is both good and bad. On the bad side, the quality of the music has dropped in some areas, but on the good side, we can see the real Hawk Nelson.

the most amazing so far | Posted September 27, 2009
this cd is so amazing. i love the lyrics and pretty much everything else. With different lineup changes in drummers i didn't think that this cd would be as good but when i saw them at rock the universe a coouple weeks ago i knew right then that justin was the best one so out of the other two. a cool thing about the cd is the 3d glasses that came with it. i absolutley love the fun and fast stuff like "live life loud" and "the job". but the second i heard eggshells i couldnt find any song that was better. just keep rocking.

Really fun album | Posted September 27, 2009
It's been a pretty incredible late summer/fall of new album releases. The most recent addition to my music addiction is Hawk Nelson's Live Life Loud. In two words: Really fun.

The title track reminds me of the B52s crossed with Toni Basil's Mickey, and is one of those consummate summer songs that requires the listener to play it very loud in the car with the windows down. Never Enough grinds along with a fun groove. Eggshells bops along with another fun groove. The Meaning of Life has a bit of a retro feel to it, although I'll be darned to figure out which musical era (vaguely 60s with a mix of 80s?). Alive continues the trend of the first half of the album - another solid song.

Not every song is a winner - Ode to Stanley is quirky and full of Canadian content, but it's nothing special. And while Tis So Sweet is a classic hymn, it just feels so utterly out of place on a poppy-punk rock record.

Canadian Smorgashbord | Posted September 26, 2009
Canadian rock band Hawk Nelson's fourth release is, according to the band, their hardest release. Not being that familiar with the band, I can't confirm or deny that. I think though, that this must be the most eclectic album I have ever heard. From the use of Cheerleaders on the Opening Song (not so well done, if done at all, since Aleixa's I Could Murder), to the use of bagpipes (a redo of Tis So Sweet), to acoustic pop (The Final Toast), to songs written specially for a tour with skillet (Never Enough) to boy band (Shaken) to the extremely quirky Ode to Lord Stanley (only Canadians could pull that one off with a straight face.)

Live Life loud is a fun album, but hard to peg. Give it a shot.
