dc talk member tobyMac has gone back to his hip-hop roots on his debut solo release. With samples of familiar hooks, combined with catchy rhymes and layered with gritty hard rock guitars, he creates an album that defines its title, Momentum. tobyMac easily moves you with the smooth grooves of "In the Air" and rocks you with the blood pumping "Extreme Days."
In describing his album, tobyMac states "I choose to take elements of hip-hop and try to lift people and try to cause them to think about where they stand in race relations, to cause them to think about who God is, to think about freeing themselves a little and having a good time."

What a great cd. I have a lot of bittersweet memories this album brings back. One of course was the song "Irene". Wendy dropped out of highschool, got her GED and rasied Andy pretty much on her own until our chance meeting when I ran into her at college. She and I sang and danced to that song(only I replaced "Irene" with "Wendy", lol.) It didn't take long for us to figure out we divorced for a reason, but, man, I got a healthy respect for her and from that I resolved to neven abandon Andy after that.
The other memories are ones of my highschool friends "The Jesus Freaks" as we called ourselves. We let that cd be the background to all of our parties and we made some pretty goofy rewritesand videos of some of 'em. I know one thing, Tobymac has a style that can't be beat(and we really tried)!
The music is really catchy, upbeat. and it has that "smack in the face reality check" we all need from time to time. For me, Tobymac defines God in some amazing ways, and this cd is only the first in his line of awesome music.
I love the way this cd is.It's appropriate for partying, hanging, or talking, and my "Brothers" use a lot of these songs to fing ways to discuss God.
Favorite song? Wow, hard choice, but I'd have to say "Wonderin' Why" because it makes the point clear. God's truth should be made desirable and appealing as possible. Another great song is "In The Air" which really is a great way to motivate yourself to tell others about God, because "I wanna see you there, in the air... do do do do...."
Do you know is another dad to dad smack in the face. I can't make my son a Christian, but I sure can set the example and point the way. I can pray for him daily and try to teach him to do what is right. In the end, hopefully my hard work will pay off!
The only thing most fans don't like is the debut of Truett Mckeehan, aka "Trudog", but hey, can you really blame his dad for giving him a shot? You almost have to applaud the little guy for trying and for a kid his age, he did pretty good!
More Fun Than Substance.| Posted November 20, 2008
I love having fun, but this album is more productiona and "fluff" than substance. I liked the songs "Irene" and "Somebody's Watching". That's about it. Get his newest album, (portable sounds), now that CD is fun.... and spiritualy edifying!

Because of this album, we have tobymac. and thank God for this album. great songs and i like his girl vocalist except i forgot her name. but good beats like "irene" has great rapping, "somebody's watching" is good too. and "j train" has kirk franklin on the track so thats cool too.
but the thing thats kinda annoying is that some of his songs, he kinda copied from some other songs. like i think it was "somebody's watching" or some other song on the album but he copied it from some tv show theme song. so yeah.....
