Turning to God for Guidence

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through June. I’ve been living in Louisville for almost a month now and my heart has really been opened to this city and the ministry happening here. There’s been big decisions and small decisions we’ve  all had to choose from, whether it’s: “Should I go hang out on the town, or get some rest”, “Should I commit to working VBS, or to organizing a yard sale?”, or “Should I go talk to this person, or should I continue working?” and many many more.

Life is full of decisions and some are easier to decide than others. As we get older, we realize that not all decisions can be broken down into right and wrong, black or white. We realize that when deciding the best way to handle a situation, you might have to choose between two undesirable consequences. Many of us find ourselves juggling activities and  in situations where we have to choose between competing commitments. This has been the case for as long as people have been making decisions: Abraham had to choose between disobeying God and sacrificing his son Isaac ( Genesis 22:1-14). David, after upsetting God by taking a census, had to select one of three punishments for the people of Israel ( 2 Samuel 24:10-17).

Being faithful to God and being a follower of Jesus doesn’t mean you will be excluded from having tough times. In fact, Christians are told to take the narrow road because it leads to life, but the wide road leads to death and destruction. The best part about this is: when tough situations arise, we can turn to God for guidence and wisdom. We live in a sinful world, we will face harsh situations and will have to deal with many consequences. Through all of this though; we must strive to stay faithful to God and treat others with love and compassion.
