|MIKESCHAIR Stolen After Peoria Show
Chart-topping Christian band MIKESCHAIR received some devastating news shortly after their Peoria, Ill. concert Friday night: Mike's actual chair had been stolen from the band's trailer.
The chair--a La-Z-Boy Madison Swivel Occasional Chair--had been in lead singer Mike Grayson's possession since forming the band as a freshman at Belmont University. The band--unable to decide on a name--ultimately settled for the most well-loved object in the dorm room: Mike's chair.
Grayson and his bandmates discovered a chair-shaped hole cut into the side of their trailer, and then realized the chair was gone. The thieves also spraypainted over the band's name on the trailer, leaving only the word "Mike."
"That chair was like a mother to me," a tearful Grayson said Sunday outside of Chicago. "I don't like to get too wrapped up in material things and all, but that's our NAME, dude! How could someone take the chair?!"
The stolen chair retails for $779, and although fans have quickly raised more than half that amount on Kickstarter.com to replace the chair, Grayson says there's no replacing THE chair.
"I don't know what we're going to do," said Grayson. "This is like losing a pet or an iPhone that didn't have all of its info backed up to iCloud. We're going to have to reassess things before we continue this tour."
Grayson was last seen reluctantly sitting on a bright red beanbag chair, although he denies rumors the band is changing its name to MIKESBEANBAG.
