To Our NRT Family,
Today marks the beginning of a brand new chapter for NRT.
Earlier this year, the International Federation of the Photographic Industry (IFPI), the British-based organization that represents over 1,300 international music labels, announced that starting this Summer on July 10th, all new releases will street at 12:01 a.m. on Fridays worldwide, effectively making Fridays the new "Tuesday" here in the states. It's a pretty seismic shift for an industry that has been releasing music in the U.S. on Tuesdays for a quarter of a century.
As the leading Christian music site online since 2002, we've been pretty relentless at educating anyone who will listen on what's new in Christian music every Tuesday. It's in our name and built into our DNA. And because of that, I've fielded quite a few comments from industry insiders, site visitors and friends wondering what's next for NewReleaseTuesday.com.
For a while now, we've been incorporating our acronym, NRT, in a lot more of our branding and marketing, and to that end, NRT is going to stay the same. What we are changing is what the "T" stands for. So, as of today, we are now NewReleaseTODAY!
Although we have owned NewReleaseFriday.com for years now, we feel that the best thing for the future of NRT is to not tie our identity to a particular day of the week, but rather to the music itself. And the truth is, from lyric videos to music videos, free song downloads to acoustic shows broadcast live over the Internet, new music is being released every day in many different ways. Rather than bounce around the various days of the week in a rapidly changing music environment, we've staked our future and our identity in delivering the music we love and believe in each and every day of the week.
That is why we have become NewReleaseToday. Changing the day of the week may be important to the suits, but for you, the music fan, new music is new music. We'll continue to consume it together, talk about it together, review it and critique together. The process isn't going away. The music won't stop coming.
In summary, NRT is about helping you discover new music. On a Tuesday. On a Friday. On an early Sunday morning at 2 a.m. when you can't get to sleep. Thanks so much for joining us on this journey and we couldn't be more excited about the future we'll have together!
