On April 18, the Christian music world was rocked by the news that contemporary Christian artist and gospel vocalist Mandisa had passed away. While the cause of death is still unknown, Brentwood Baptist Church held a celebration of life ceremony honoring her life and legacy.
Mandisa's father, John Hundley, spoke at the ceremony, and he presented a possible reason for the cause of her death.
"Mandisa fell down in her bedroom," said Hundley. "They found her on the floor."
Hundley explained that Mandisa was on the left side of the bed, and her phone was sitting on a nightstand on the right, so there wasn't a way for her to call for help. He said that Mandisa had previously gotten COVID-19 and was weak, which could possibly be the reason why she fell.
The service continued with a message from Beth Moore and a performance from the Fisk Jubilee Singers, a group Mandisa was part of in college.
A couple of days after the ceremony, Colton Dixon, Danny Gokey, and Melinda Doolittle were featured on American Idol and gave a live tribute to Mandisa. They performed "Shackles (Praise You)," which Mandisa performed when she was a contestant on the show. You can watch the tribute here.
Christian artists have been remembering Mandisa on their social media pages, and we've added their sentiments and messages here.
