After smashing fan voting records in its second year of existence, the WE LOVE CHRISTIAN MUSIC AWARDS is once again turning to fans to help recognize the best Christian music and media of the past year.
Voting is now open for the third annual awards, presented by NewReleaseTuesday.com--the largest Christian music site online--in conjunction with its primary sponsor, Christian music streaming service The Overflow. Fans can vote as often as they want at www.weloveawards.com, and if last year's 18,000 votes is any indication, participation is going to be massive.
The WE LOVE CHRISTIAN MUSIC AWARDS announced the nominees for this year's honors, representing an eclectic mix of the best Christian artists, albums and more of the calendar year 2014, as chosen by NRT's editorial staff.
Leading this year's class of nominees is for KING & COUNTRY, the pop/rock outfit fronted by brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, whose 2014 release, Run Wild Live Free Love Strong fueled a career-high six nominations including Album of the Year, Group of the Year, Song of the Year ("Fix My Eyes"), The Hook Award for Best Pop Artist/Group, Video of the Year ("Without You") and Best Collaboration ("Run Wild" feat. Andy Mineo).
Switchfoot was right behind the Aussie brothers with five nominations, also getting nods for Album of the Year, Group of the Year, and Song of the Year ("When We Come Alive"), as well as being nominated for The Rawkfist Award for Best Rock/Alternative Artist/Group, and Best Lead Singer (Jon Foreman).
Among record labels, Word Label Group leads the pack with 18 nominations, followed by Tooth & Nail/BEC/Solid State (12) and Reach Records and Capitol Label Group with 7 apiece. Independent artists netted a record 21 nominations this year.
Voters will pick winners in 23 different categories, which are divided into three types: Genre Categories (Best Pop Artist, Best Rock Artist, etc.), Standard Categories (Song of the Year, Album of the Year, etc.) and the rotating We Love Categories--featuring the brand new category, Movie of the Year.
"We were treated to so many high-profile, high quality Christian films in 2014, that we felt like we had to recognize that." said NRT Executive Editor Marcus Hathcock. "I loved that in many of the films we nominated, music had a natural connection."
After bringing the WE LOVE CHRISTIAN MUSIC AWARDS to nearly half a million people in its first two years, the show is hitting the road again as a part of The Rock & Worship Roadshow 2015 tour in February and March. Concertgoers will have the chance to experience the live announcement of an award each night of the tour, complete with exclusive acceptance speeches from winners.
To reflect the partnership with The Rock & Worship Roadshow, attendees once again will have the exclusive opportunity to choose the winner of a special award category: The Roadshow Award for the best live performance on the tour.
"It's been incredible to see the response to these awards," said NRT Founder/President Kevin McNeese. "We've had a blast trying new things and doing what other award shows aren't doing, and the fans are loving it. We can't wait to see this year's response, and to get out on the road again to bring the awards to the fans."
Joining the WE LOVE CHRISTIAN MUSIC AWARDS this year is principal sponsor The Overflow, which is the premier Christian music streaming subscription service.
"The partnership with The Overflow is a pretty natural one," McNeese said, "because of our love of both the established artists and the talented up and comers. This is just the beginning of some awesome work together."
