Integrity, character and patience are qualities Under5ive believe are greater than having great talent. She desires to infuse those principles to the listener. "I want to address issues that affect the development of people and their perception of life, love, their purpose and worth."
It wasn’t until the late 1980's that Under5ive developed the desire to start rapping. She smiled and reminisced, “I was watching TV when Queen Latifah’s video came on. It was the song U.N.I.T.Y. That blew me out the water. I couldn’t believe it. She was a female flowin’ so tight and at the same time she was talking about something. That changed my whole perspective of rap and what it could be used to do. Not only that, but it gave me the courage to believe I could write my own raps.” (from her personal website)
