Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Joel began honing his God-given talent while being mentored by one of the most endowed ministers and songwriters. At the age of 13, an opportunity presented itself and Joel became a youth choir and praise team director for the Bible Way Church.

During the 1990's Joel was influenced by gospel groups like Commissioned and The Winans, along with vocalists like Carl Thomas. By listening to and studying these talented male singers, he developed his individual style. This led to Buckner developing a passion for leading people into worship.

In 2006, Joel took a leap of faith and moved to Nashville, Tennessee to showcase his talent in various venues. Buckner made Oasis Church in Nashville, Tennessee his home church in 2007. At Oasis Church, Joel led worship and has had the opportunity to be mentored by lead pastor Danny Chambers. In 2011, Buckner moved to Miami, Florida, where he is now the worship leader for South Coast Church.

Surrounding himself with other thriving artists, Joel allows himself to continue to grow; perfecting his gifts in songwriting, leading worship, and ministering to young men. His songwriting arsenal houses a variety of songs such as "We Come To Worship You", "Draw Me" and " I Will Live." "Father of My Soul" is another song Joel wrote that speaks directly to being in the protective, consoling arms of the Father. Joel believes that our joy is complete knowing that if we just rest in God's presence, He is always there and His love is pure and deep enough to conquer all.

In March 2009, Joel's debut album was released, entitled I Will Live. In writing this collection, he blended his life experiences with his neo soul/acoustic style of music. His army of loyal fans is enthusiastically awaiting the release of future worship projects.

Joel also feeds his other passion by ministering to young men through a variety of ministry vehicles that are focused on rebuilding and changing communities.
He believes there is strength in numbers; however, it only takes one person to ignite a movement and Joel feels led to "be the change" for his generation.
