The Most Perfect Picture of Imperfection began in a quiet suburb of Oklahoma City and has since taken residence in the desert of Phoenix, Arizona. That imperfect sound has developed into one of unbridled passion; as heard in gospel lee's unique delivery. There is a progressive sense of responsibility that is completely unashamed. This exclusive 'fingerprint' delivery makes it nearly impossible to liken him to any others in his field of Rap/Hip-Hop.
Gospel Lee translates this custom delivery and relentless passion into profoundly simple lyrics that birth conscious thought in the listener and foster meaningful questions. The lyricism of gospel lee in a live context is a high-energy, expressively emotional experience that is raw, yet vulnerable without abandon. Another element that distinguishes his live show is his uncanny freestyling prowess, composing entire songs from audience-selected topics spontaneously. At its conclusion, there is nothing left on stage except sweat and broken pretenses.
2012 marked the year of gospel lee's first major release Who I Am, an extended play record which represented a decade of labor, refinement, and birth of this new sound. This project was his introduction to the local Phoenix scene as well as announcement to those beyond and has been well received. The product of a overwhelmingly successful Kickstarter campaign, the deeply introspective nature of the EP focuses on the commonalities between gospel lee and the listener and has united various age and culture demographics under the umbrella of the human experience.
In 2014 gospel lee embarked on the considerable task of depicting the struggle of living with the diagnosis of cancer with his release "Beautiful Not Broken." The 4 song extended play album was a conceptual journey through the up's and downs, oppositions & triumphs of cancer survivors conveyed by gospel lee framed in an inspirational context. The result was an uplifting message with a application that reached beyond illness and into a shared human condition. This was gospel lee's first philanthropic venture donating all profits to the American Cancer Society.
At his core gospel lee is an individual who passionately believes in "bringing light to dark places." It is this belief expressed through the art of Hip-Hop & emotionally honest lyricism expressed in a live context that has allowed Gospel Lee to share stages with bands like Switchfoot, Manafest, & KJ-52, and most notably Grammy Award winning artist Lecrae. He is the most perfect picture of imperfection.
