Northern Irish singer song-writer David Paul has been passionately playing and performing his own songs, in different capacities, for the last decade.
The focus has always been impact real time. Music that deals with everyday issues, talks about ordinary people. The issues, inextricably linked, and the people, collectively involved, in this extraordinary sphere of service for, and worship of, an amazing, living God.
Penning and composing musically 11 of the 13 tracks on his former band Beyond's debut album release 'The World Means You To God' which received the UK Christian Broadcasting Council's Gold Award for Best Christian Contemporary Music album 2006 has been the artist's most pleasing collaborative accolade to date.
The review comments for that release seem to echo David's earmark for any music he's involved in; "refreshing", "unfamiliar", "different", "intriguing", "appealing", "sensitive", "unusual", "involving", "unique", "outstanding"... these are the responses the artist inspires.
Now David Paul and his newly formed live band ‘the People’ bring again new songs and new perspectives to the fore with the release of their 2012 debut album 'Signs of the Times';
Jono Davies Louder Than The Music:
"Indie rock at its best. Creative, dark and passionate"
"I have to admit this album isn't your traditional Christian sounding album, which actually is great a thing. It's raw and different, and a songwriters album."
"I love musicians with character... David Paul has been allowed to be himself without falling into a cliched sound or style to create Christian music."
"What has got to be one of the most intriguing Christian music projects on the go at the moment."
"A search for musical and spiritual authenticity that is seeing the moulds of Christian music broken again and again. David Paul & the People fit somewhere in that expanding experimental niche. There is absolutely nothing predictable about Signs of the Times"
"It’s as if the band dipped into their repertoire of favourite rock influences from the last half century and blended them into their own musical creation."
"For those whose appetite for mould-breaking Christian music has been whetted by the big names staking out the centre ground in this genre, take a chance with David Paul & the People. There’s a good chance you’ll be hooked. Our verdict: Definitely a band to watch."
