Jake Schwein’s (pronounced sch-ween) passion for leading worship started on a mission trip to South Africa in 1997. A day before he left the USA, for a period of two months, Jake made a curious decision to take a guitar that he had never played. While sitting outside the Zulu huts in South Africa figuring out chords and strum patterns, God began to birth something in Jake’s heart that was going to forever change him. It was there that God placed a desire to lead worship in his heart. Since that moment, Jake’s life and worship ministry has been marked by two things: a passionate love for Jesus Christ, and a desire to Do Justly, Love Mercy and Walk Humbly. It is out of this heart for God, The Church and The World that OVERWHELMED (Jake’s solo debut) was created.
Jake hails from Portland, Oregon, where he has served as the Pastor of Worship and Creative Arts for the past 9 years at Grace Chapel. Jake is married to Carol and has three incredible children; Josiane, Josiah and Jaelyn. In 2005, the Lord took Jake and his wife on a journey to adopt a beautiful 9 year old girl from Rwanda, Africa. This event has remarkably awakened a greater appreciation for the gospel in their life. ”I want people to not just sing the words of Jesus but to live them. I believe God smiles when we sing to Him only when the words that we sing are true of the lives that we live.”
Overwhelmed is Jake’s debut with Tent Creative Group. These songs, co-written by Jake Schwein and Dave Lubben, target the heart of people on a journey with God. Overwhelmed is a blend of thoughtful lyrics with infectious hooks to achieve a worship project The Church will long to sing.
